Tip #1: Move to a Well-Lit, Populated Location
If you are locked out of your car, don’t linger in an unlit area or on a deserted street, or a parking deck, lot or garage, especially if you are alone. Head toward a public place to be safe during your auto lockout. Look around for an open restaurant, gas station, convenience store or business where other people are around.

To cut down on the likelihood that you’ll experience an auto lockout, set in place a routine to make sure you have your keys with you once you leave your car, like always having them in your hand when you exit the automobile.
